DOHA: Striker Romarinho on Sunday scored three goals in
six minutes as El Jaish crushed Al Ahli 4-2 to reach the semifinals
of the Emir Cup.
Congolese striker Ndombe Mubele opened the scoring for Al
Ahli by taking a well-placed penalty kick in the 15th minute at
Abdulla Bin Khalifa Stadium.
After numerous attempts going waste, El Jaish found the equaliser
through Ali Sanad in the last few seconds of the first half. Sanad fired
from close range to bring delight in El Jaish’s camp.
Soon after the resumption of play, El Jaish took the lead through
Romarinho who clipped the ball into an empty net following a
goalkeeper’s gaffe from Al Ahli in the 51st minute.
Two minutes later, Romarinho scored his second and EL Jaish’s
third goal with a solo run into Al Ahli box where he quickly slotted
the ball home. In the 57th minute, Romarinho scored his third
Mubele flicked one from close range to reduce the deficit in the
82nd minute Earlier in the evening, Lekhwiya edged past Al Sailiyah
when Youssef Msakni fired home a late equaliser in the 87th minute.
Lekhwiya, seeking their maiden Emir Cup title, looked relieved
when the referee blew the final whistle.
El Jaish and Lekhwiya will renew their rivarly when the two sides
meet in the semifinal, another mouthwatering contest between
the two sides will be in the knockout stage of the Asian Champions
League knockout phase in a little over a week.
The Emir Cup final will be played on May 20.
