DOHA, February 8, 2016 – The competitions of the prestigious Qatar International Sailing Championship 2016 organized by the Qatar Sailing and Marine Sports Federation (QSMSF) were concluded successfully at Katara Beach (Cultural Village) on Sunday.
Qatari sailors ended their campaign in the prestigious event on high note, posted good results, where Optimist team confidently won the bronze medal in the team event, Waleed Al Sharshani took silver medal in laser standard class, while Faris Al Bekri clinched bronze in laser Radial.
Malaysian sailors dominated the medals tally in the prestigious where they clinched the titles in Optimist (single and teams) and Laser 4.7, laser Radial and laser standards.
The four day championship bringing together 90 sailors representing 16 nations worldwide including, Bahrain, Kuwait, France, USA, England, India, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Serbia, Norway , Slovenia and hosts Qatar.
Sailors competed in six classes including, Optimist (single – teams) laser 4.7, Laser Radial, laser standard, 470 and Hobby 16.
The championship’s Organizing Committee has allocated valuable prize money for top winners where , the first place winner got QR 10.000, Runner-up received QR 7.000 and third place got QR 4.000.
